An eyewitness said that it a casually thrown cigarette butt caused the massive fire that gutted two buildings under construction in the Al Tawuun area of Sharjah last night.

However, according an officer from the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, quoted in local newspaper Gulf Today, “The fire supposedly erupted from an electric shot circuit in the 21-storied building.”

The fire spread rapidly upward on the building, breaking windowpanes that were already fitted.

The building already had a helipad completed.

The building was under-construction in Mimza area of Al Khan.

The owner of the building is Rashid Ali Rashid Demas Al Suwaidy, according to Gulf Today.

The building named Al Mansour is being constructed by Demas and Ali Farhan Engineering and Contracting Company (DAFCO).

No casualties have been reported so far.

Civil defence teams from both Sharjah and Dubai brought the fire under control.

Investigations into the cause of the fire will begin later.

Police were able to control the traffic, but because of onlookers traffic is not flowing smoothly through the area. The police is trying to disperse onlookers and move the traffic.
