Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Al Ain seized about 5,176 vehicles with worn-out tyres in the first quarter of this year.

This was part of the campaign by the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate on main highways checking vehicles for worn-out tyres.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of Al Ain Traffic Section, said, “Motorists caught driving vehicles with tyres in poor condition will be fined Dh200 and their vehicles confiscated for seven days.”

"The awareness campaign aims at educating motorists on the need to check their vehicles’ tyres regularly and change them if used for long period, particularly during summer when there is a risk of them bursting due to high temperatures," Maj Al Hemairi said and cautioned motorists from using faulty or substandard tyres.

He said about 5,176 vehicles with worn-out tyres were confiscated during the first quarter of this year.

He added that the campaign will continue to raise awareness among drivers, especially as summer has set in.
