Dubai 4-digit number plate sold for Dh38,400

The Licensing Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has auctioned 615 number plates online, fetching Dh4.5 million over three days, said a press statement today.

The highest bid was received for the four-digit number plate M-2011 which was auctioned for Dh38,400 ($10,463) followed by M-9110 which fetched Dh36,000, and H-7867 which was exchanged for Dh31,500.

Mohammed Abdul Kareem Nimaat, Director of RTA Vehicles Licensing, said: "The 12th Online Auction was devoted to a diverse cast of numbers bearing different codes in response to suffice the needs of individuals interested in buying distinguished plates online in a transparent and hassle-free manner. Staging online auctions is an integral part of the services the Licensing Agency is keen to provide to the public at world-class standards.

"The success of these auctions is a testament to the clear vision chalked out by the Vehicles Licensing Dep't through working out appropriate plans & programs pertinent to the timing of the auction, and numbers enlisted, besides striking a balance between supply and demand in the relevant local market. Staging these auctions brings about huge multiple benefits in creating a highly competitive environment among participants in a transparent and clear manner; which in turn contributes to boosting the nominal value of numbers," added Nimaat.

In total, 195 bidders participated in the 12th online auction of number plates.

The 13th Online Auction will be held by in June and is set to include about 150 plates of 3, 4 and 5-digit plates of various codes.
