Dubai-bound Sharjah taxi fares revised

Dubai-bound passengers who hail Sharjah taxis and then change their mind will henceforth not lose money as the Dh20 starting charge will be added only at the point when the cab crosses over to Dubai.

Sharjah taxi meters have been modified, wherein drivers start the meter at Dh3 and then add Dh20 only upon crossing over to Dubai, clarified a top STC official.

This means, passengers will now pay the minimum fare of Dh3 in addition to whatever would accumulate before reaching the border with

Dubai after which Dh20 is added upon crossing.

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Deputy Director, Operations, Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC), clarified that the meter will read Dh3 between 6am

and 10:59pm and Dh4 between 11pm and 5:59am.

The change aims at avoiding differences that have been commonly reported between drivers and passengers, because when passengers suddenly change their mind about crossing into Dubai, the meter could not be reversed, he added.
