Dubai carries out food inspection at schools

As the new academic year is on, Dubai Municipality has started campaign to ensure food safety in educational institutions which includes inspections and awareness visits.

It was announced by Sultan Ali Al Taher who is heading food inspection section at the civic body.

“The campaign is to ensure the safety of consumers of food products and drinks in the academic institutions, including girls and boys hailing from different age groups,” Sultan said.

“We are targeting institutions belonging to both government and private sector in Dubai of which the numbers comes nearly about 300,” he said.
The campaign will continue till the next month.

During the visits, food inspection section will collect samples of drinking water and food items served at the institutions to be taken to laboratories for further scientific tests.

The section will also check whether the catering companies and other food suppliers are the approved ones by the food control department at municipality.

Kitchen and food serving areas in the institutions will be inspected to ensure if the specifications and other requirements are duly met according to the instructions.

During the visits, municipality officials will educate the management on how to be more alert on the health and safety aspects. Introducing Health Supervisor programme will also be introduced these visits.

Sultan said Dubai Municipality is planning to organize special training sessions for those who are running canteens collaborating with approved groups having expertise and experience in this field.

“Recently published health practices guide will be distributed to the authorities and will educate them on how to implement its content,” he added.

He asked management of educational institutions to contact municipality food control department for all kind of information regarding approved companies, trainings and health supervisor programme.
