The Waste Management Department of Dubai Municipality has intensified its cleaning operations after the end of winter desert camping season in order to ensure the cleanliness of the desert and preservation of the environment.

Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of the Waste Management Department, said a plan has been developed to implement the best standards of public cleanliness in the winter camping areas, namely: Wadi Al Amradi, University City Road, Al Warqa 5, Midriff, Wadi Al Shabak  and Al Tay.

Total area of winter camping in the Emirate of Dubai is estimated at 17 sq km which includes 360 winter camps permitted by Dubai Municipality.

The department has updated the cleaning team of five supervisors and 50 cleaners who have been provided with safety tools and work equipment suitable for the desert nature to work round-the-clock.

The team has collected about 581 tonnes of waste during last winter from November 2013 to the end of April 2014.
