Dubai’s education regulatory body is offering local residents a unique opportunity to honour their teachers.

All they need to do is upload a 15-second video tribute on Instagram and tag it #iAppreciate and @KHDADubai instagram handle by October 3.

What’s more, the tribute stands to win a prize if it manages to impress a selection board.

Designed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the Instagram contest will mark World Teacher’s Day, which is on October 5.

According to a KHDA spokesperson, the contest is open to everyone in the UAE, and not restricted only to students.

The guidelines, which have been unveiled on the KHDA website, detailed that the videos of appreciation can honour more than one teacher.

Talking to Emirates 24|7, Hind Al Mualla, chief of engagement at the KHDA, reasoned what prompted them to create this concept.

“Video is a really effective way of communicating.  We know many students, parents and teachers are on Instagram, and we wanted to do something different to show teachers how much they are appreciated and what a great job they do every day,” he stated.

Ever since the announcement on Sunday, Hind observed that the response has been great.

“We’ve had lots of interest, many people are keen to know more about it, and we’re really looking forward to seeing all the videos.”

He added that information about the contest has been circulated to all leading schools and universities in the emirates.

“This is a great initiative. And, I’m looking forward to taking part in it,” said Neeti, a student in an Indian school.

“Our teachers work so hard and it’s nice that we get a chance to tell them how much they mean to us,” added another student Karthik.

The teaching community is equally excited about the contest.

“This would be our most prized reward,” remarked a teacher.

What’s more, the non-student population is all thrilled to be included.

“No matter who you are, or how old you are, there will always be one teacher, who has influenced you. And, to be able to tell them how important they are and how grateful you are, is definitely an opportunity that we must all cash in on,” highlighted marketing executive Vinitha.

So, if you want to thank your teacher for all the guidance, support and love, then make the video and make it happen.
