Dubai Police has arrested a gang of 13 Asians who specialised in stealing from warehouses in Jebel Ali and recovered 5,000 laptop computers worth Dh10 million from them.

The arrested gang was hired by the owner of a shipping company who tried to export the stolen goods out of the UAE on the same day.

Police have also arrested the owner of the shipping company, after investigations proved that he was an accomplice of the gang and that he knew that the goods set for export were stolen.

The gang also hired another person who owned two trucks which was used to transport the stolen goods from the warehouse to the shipping company's headquarters in Dubai.

This was revealed at a press conference attended by Adel Joker, Deputy CID Director of Dubai Police.

Police had received four complaints of theft from warehouses in Jebel Ali.

CID investigators became suspicious of two large trucks, after which they were monitored. Three people inside the trucks and 10 people inside a warehouse were also kept under watch.

On the instructions Major General Khamis Mattar Almazinha, arrest of the gang took place only after all others involved in the theft came to be known.

Police investigation proved that the gang was also involved in thefts from three other warehouses in Jebel Ali.

The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecution in Dubai to complete legal procedures against 15 defendants, including the owner of the shipping company and owner of the trucks.
