Dubai exchange house gets 1.5m fake rupees

Three Indians allegedly possessed two million in Indian rupees and exchanged more than Rs1.5m with a money exchange house in Dubai.

The company found out that the notes were forgeries and lodged a complaint with the police, providing them with a photocopy of the ID of the person who made the exchange.

It was then discovered that Rs286,500 was exchanged at another branch of the same company, and those notes were also fake.

Police brought in a man identified as RR, who made the first exchange and after questioning he told them that he was asked by two other people to exchange the cash into UAE dirhams.

He denied knowing the notes were forged and supplied the police with the contact number of one MS.

Police arrested MS who then led them to a third person involved, AS.

The police have deemed that RR genuinely did not know about the forgeries and was only roped into the scam.

The court will reconvene on September 29.
