Dubai Municipality inspectors, in cooperation with Dubai Police, caught 123 law violators including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers in August, said Obeid Ibrahim Marzouqi, Head of Markets Management Section at Dubai Municipality.

The move also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods and pirated CDs.

“Civic inspectors conduct daily spot checks in streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing in public places by individuals. Inspectors at the Control Unit of the Markets Administration Section in the Assets Management Department carry out regular checks,” Ibrahim said.

“Last month, they caught 111 street vendors, five car washers and seven illegal butchers and fish cleaners,” he said.

“A total of 373 counterfeit products were seized including 187 DVDs, pirated films and pornographic movies, 42 food products, 139 ready-made garments, perfumes, cameras, watches and five alcoholic drinks,” he added.

Those caught are to be handed over to the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department for deportation.
