Dubai NYE 2014 fireworks: Click here to relive world record moments

As Dubai got ready for New Year celebrations like never before, most residents of the city said they'd rather watch the show quietly in their living rooms than step out in the night to be a part of the spectacular event.

An online poll run by Emirates 24|7 showed that majority of the people who reside in the city spent their New Year’s Eve watching fireworks live, online or on TV as opposed to attending any other party in town.

These people along with a host of tourists and visitors from across the Gulf countries and around the world watched the world record set as 400,000 fireworks were set off at midnight on December 31.

Emaar streamed the legendary Burj Khalifa fireworks live on YouTube for eager fans across the world.

But of those who watched the fireworks, more people preferred to watch on their television sets than step out on the road or stand on one of the numerous spots from where they could watch the dazzling affair from the Burj Khalifa, Atlantis or the Burj al Arab.

Majority of the respondents (39 per cent) who participated in the poll opted to watch the Dubai fireworks on TV, followed by another 25 per cent who plan watching it live.

Next on the list (22 per cent) are those people who said they'd stay away from the fireworks and spend the evening quietly at a private party with family and friends.

Surprisingly, only a minority opted to party at one of the hotels in the country. Just a 10 per cent of the respondents will be a part of a hotel party or an event to ring in 2014. And, there are some who will prefer to be away from the city to celebrate the occasion. There are 4 per cent of respondents who travelled to another country for New Year’s.
