Dubai Police blocks 69 drug promotion websites

Dubai Police have blocked 69 websites found to be promoting drugs through the sale of herbs and other products over the past two-and-a-half years, the head of the counter-narcotics division in the emirate was quoted on Sunday as saying.

Colonel Eid Thani Harib said a newly-created police section fitted with computer experts have been closely watching suspected websites in a bid to protect the local community against narcotics and other crimes.

He said most of the blocked sites operate from abroad and that they promote their drug products under the cover of medical herbs and energy substances.

“They send the ordered shipment to the country under those names…we have discovered suspected shipments and blocked 69 sites involved in this activity.”

He said 29 sites were blocked in 2012 while 30 were blocked in 2013 and the rest in the first eight months of 2014.
