Dubai Police will soon begin impounding vehicles from homes of motorists who are found violating rules.

Maj-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director-General, Dubai Police, Traffic, was quoted as saying by Al Ittihad newspaper that number plates of vehicles will be seized from the residences of motorists.

Motorists will have the vehicles at their homes but will not be able to use them until the end of the impounded period, he explained. Those who continue driving impounded vehicles with fake number plates will face hefty fines, said Maj-Gen Al Zafeen.

The proposal was discussed during the regular meeting of the Police Advisory Council for community service, which was held recently in the presence of Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.

Maj-Gen Al Zafeen said: “This will prevent over-crowding at impounding sites as well as control accidents.”

Meanwhile, he pointed out that the driver of the vehicle will be obliged to impound the car in his house and not used until the end of the impoundment period.
