Dubai resident is all praise for Civil Defense’s kitten rescue operation

A Dubai resident has written in to commend the quick rescue operation undertaken by Dubai Civil Defense to save the life of a kitten that somehow managed to sneak into a hole in his office’s wall.

Here, in his own words, the resident describes how the Civil Defense professionals accomplished the delicate task without injuring the scared kitten:

“On September 9, 2014, we witnessed a great rescue of a kitten (approximately 1 month old) stuck between a concrete wall and the facets at my office premises.

The drama started the day before (8th) late in the evening when we in our office heard this kitten crying out loud for help. We tried numerous ways to help the kitten get out but we could not succeed.

We left for home and returned the next day (9th) only to witness the kitten still in there. We realised it was exhausted crying. We requested our company’s carpenters and engineers to remove the wooden cabinets and make a hole in the wall so the cat may get out.

But that didn’t work either. At around 17.00 hours, I was speaking with my wife and she suggested to call up the Fire Department for help. Thank God I did.

I received a return call from the Civil Defense Officer at 5.12, who were already outside our offices.

By 5.30, there were 2 big fire department vehicles and 6 officers from the Dubai Civil Defense investigating the rescue operation.

By 6 the officers cut through the steel, concrete but the kitten got scared and moved further away, making the rescue operation complicated. The officers then cut a second hole through glass, concrete and steel.

By 6.20 the kitten was out and one of the officers held the feline in his hands and fed her milk and watered her face gently whilst comforting the kitten.

During this dramatic rescue the officer’s from the Civil Defense remained professional throughout. There were numerous people witnessing the situation at hand. We now have the kitten at home, well fed and taken care of.

By the way, we named the kitten “Lucky” for obvious reasons.

I hope this story inspires people around the Emirates to lend that helping hand and realise there is hope.

I’d like to say a huge Thank You to the Department of Civil Defense but I do not know how and to whom. Hence to you my favourite Press in Dubai.”
