The fare of a trip on Dubai Taxi has been increased by 5 per cent, confirms the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

"As part of its endeavours towards continuous improvement of its services, the RTA has increased the taxi fares by five per cent.”

The authority described the rise in fare as a marginal increase. “For example, if the fare is Dh30 it will now be priced Dh31.5," read the statement.

The taxi fare was increased around the same time last year, when the flag-down rate on the street went up from Dh3 to Dh5, which applies for the whole day.

The starting rate for booked taxis were modified from Dh6 to Dh8 during off-peak hours.

During the peak hours, the starting rate for booked taxis was modified from Dh10 to Dh12 last year.

The morning peak hours start at 7am and end at 10am, and evening peak hours are from 4pm to 8pm.
