Dubai to get world’s largest hotel

Al Habtoor Group will build the hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road

Dubai-based conglomerate Al Habtoor Group plans to build world’s largest hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, which would be nearly 25 per cent bigger than the Atlantis hotel located at Palm Jumeirah in terms of number of rooms.

The hotel will add over 2,000 rooms and suites to the emirate’s burgeoning supply of rooms while Atlantis houses nearly 1, 539 rooms, Al Habtoor told The National.

The chairman is sanguine about the emirate’s hospitality and tourism sectors and betting on its growth prospects.

"Hotels are doing well. There is improvement - 2010 was good, and 2011 will be even better," he said.

The group might go alone and not seek any partnerships to finance the UAE’s biggest hotel.

"I hate partnerships," he said.

Hotels again? recession is still on, and enterpreneurs still hoping for boom of hotel business.... Why can't high established groups like these come up with ideas like setting up car parking bldgs at every juncture, which would benefit the normal residents?

We don't need anymore hotels for the next 15 - 20 years.

By what measure would this be the worlds largest hotel? Is it footprint? Is it square metres of guest rooms combined? It certainly is not rooms (though the amount of rooms is quoted) unless of course you exclude hotels that have casinos, read Venetian etc. Having stayed at many of these, they are a process line anyway (as you would expect with so many rooms) and are de-personalised to the extreme.
