Dealers in Dubai’s main vegetable and fruit market in Aweer must show the price of their products in Arabic along with other languages or they will be punished, the head of the UAE’s consumer protection unit was quoted on Tuesday as saying.

Hashim Al Nuaimi said he warned many dealers for their failure to show their prices in Arabic during his visit to Owair market on Monday.

“We have issued notices to many dealers in Aweer for their failure to abide by the rules and show their prices in Arabic language,” he said, quoted by 'Al Khaleej' daily.

“We will not tolerate such offences. A final notice will be issued to offenders and in case the offence is repeated, they will be heavily fined.

Showing the price clearly and in various languages is a key element in the consumers’ rights, which the Ministry of Economy is determined to protect.”

Nuaimi, who heads the consumer protection division at the Ministry of Economy, said inspectors and other law enforcers from the Ministry and UAE municipalities would continue to make random visits to local markets during the fasting month of Ramadan to ensure compliance with the rules.
