Two Bangladeshis involved in kidnapping and detaining a compatriot thinking that he was a police informer received one-year jail term each from the First Instance Court.

MHRM, 32, jobless, was found guilty of detaining along with two other fugitives without a legal right a compatriot thinking he had notified police about them running a prostitution den and to force him to drop a labour case he had filed against his sponsor.

The second charge was entering the country without a passport and an entry permit.

The third charge was re-entering the country despite being deported without obtaining permission from the Minister of Interior.

SHM, 30, salesman, was accused of refraining from informing relevant authorities about kidnapping the victim despite having the knowledge.

Mohammed Niwas Hassan, 28, clerk, told the prosecution that a day before his kidnap he received a call from his sponsor Isa Saqr asking him to submit his labour card in order to obtain his passport.

The following day, December 13, 2009, he received a call from SHM who asked him to come to the grocery of Isa Saqr in the Naif area to get his passport. When he reached the grocery four people kidnapped him and took him to an old house in Sharjah where he was beaten up and tortured by them.

The kidnappers asked him to call his father and tell him he is in Abu Dhabi.

Using his mobile, the kidnappers called the employer who allegedly told him that this was because he had filed a complaint against him with the Ministry of Labour. He also heard them saying he is the one who informed police about their illegal practices.

As they threatened to kill and cut him into pieces, he begged them to do whatever they wanted to release him. They accepted on the ground that he will not tell police.

The victim’s father, who was worried after his son’s call, notified a friend called Hilal Mir and the later notified police.

Isa Saqr, 31, Emirati businessman, denied involvement in the kidnap about which he came to know from the grocery’s salesman.

Hilal Mir, 26, employee, told the prosecution that he learned about the victim being assaulted and kidnapped from the grocery from shops in the neighbourhood.

Abbas Mohsen, 23, policeman, told the prosecution the victim’s father notified police about his son been kidnapped from the Naif area.

The grocery’s salesman denied knowing about the kidnap and claimed he knew about it from other people in the area.

Sayed Suhail, 34, Pakistani, taxi driver, told police that on December 15 he dropped the victim in the Al Muteena area. As he looked worried and had bruises on his face, the driver asked him the reason.

The victim told him he was kidnapped three days ago. While he was still in the taxi, Naif police called and asked him to come to the police station.

The two accused denied the charges before the court, which found them guilty and awarded them the jail terms followed by deportation.
