Captain Pilot Majid Ahmed Al Shamlan, one of the most skilled pilots the UAE has ever seen, was one of the first pilots to be martyred in Sharjah.

Nicknamed the ‘Eagle of Khor Fakkan’ because of his flying skills, he was born in Khor Fakkan and always dreamed of becoming a pilot,  according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper ‘Al Khaleej.’

Five years have passed since his martyrdom. He left behind a baby girl who is almost six years old now.

In his private majlis, his family keeps his special degrees and certificates of training as well as his medals and military decorations.

A picture of the UAE flag laid over his body proudly adorns a wall of the majlis.

On the morning of November 22, 2010, the father received news of the martyrdom of his 24-year-old son Captain Pilot Majid Al Shamlan from his other son Sultan.

The father says: “Sultan told me that his brother Majid was martyred in an accident during a training mission in Ras Al Khaimah.”

The father describes that moment as the hardest in his life.

His mother said when she got the news, she thanked Allah for gifting martyrdom to her son.

She adds: “Our religious instruction helps us to face adversity with patience, especially for a mother.”

The wife of the martyr, Iman Suleiman, says Majid was passionate about flying and had a quiet temperament.

“Despite the passage of years, our rulers never forget the sacrifices of our heroes and the children of the armed forces staff at home and abroad,” says the wife of the martyr.
