Zayed Giving Initiative, ZGI, the UAE Societal Voluntary Programme, and Tadreeb National Training, Tadreeb, have signed an agreement to establish and manage the first specialised bank for volunteers.

The bank will target volunteers across community categories to open electronic accounts, while compiling volunteers’ information and the available international and local volunteering opportunities.

The agreement aims to promote the culture of volunteering and to empower the youth community in response to the declaration of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to make 2017 the ''Year of Giving.'' Dr. Adel Al Shamri, CEO of ZGI, stressed his keenness to adopt creative initiatives in volunteering work, praising the efforts of Tadreeb in providing the logistical and technical support to establish the bank.

Al Shamri said the bank would commence with three innovative services in the field of voluntary work, most notably the volunteer-mail account, investment in community service work, and volunteer certificates with initial investment of Dh1 million. "This gesture is the first of its kind and deemed a quantum leap in the volunteering movement, whether locally or globally," he added.

Moza Al Otaiba, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said volunteering work is the cornerstone in building a coherent society, being a human trait closely linked to good practices.
