Emirati boy strangled by automatic door at Dubai home

A 10-year-old was killed when his neck was caught by an automatic door just as he used the gate remote control to shut the massive steel door at his house in Dubai, a senior police officer was reported on Saturday as saying.

The boy was closing the door behind him when he suddenly popped his head out to look at something, causing the door to shut on his neck, said Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, director of the criminal investigation department in Dubai.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the boy’s house in Warqa and police said he died on the spot before his family could rescue him.

“Police experts who examined the site said the accident was likely caused after the boy used the remote control to shut the door,” Mansoori said.

“While the boy was doing so, he popped his head out to see something while his body was still inside the house, not realizing the door was moving towards him…unfortunately, the door shut on his neck.”
