Emirati in coma for 5 years after car crash

A 35-year-old Emirati man has been in coma at a Sharjah hospital for nearly five years after he was seriously injured in a car accident in the emirate.

The unnamed man has been sent abroad for treatment but was brought back and admitted to the intensive care unit at Al Qassimi Hospital because of brain damage Doctors, quoted by the semi official daily Alittihad, said the man’s heart and respiratory system stopped briefly just after the accident but he was resuscitated.

“He has not suffered from any bed bruises or any other infection due to his long sleep but his condition is very serious because of his brain damage…the man now only needs clinical and nursing care,” a doctor said, adding that his family members often visit him.
