Road accidents killed 12 people and injured 383 in Dubai during January-February and Emiratis again emerged as the main victims of the mishaps, police statistics showed on Sunday.

They showed 431 accidents took place in the region’s business and trade hub, nearly 43 per cent lower than in January-February 2011.

“Emiratis again topped the list of victim, followed by Indians and Egyptians, as well as Pakistanis,” said Major General Mohammed Al Zafin, Dubai’s traffic police director.

His figures showed four Emiratis were killed and 66 injured in those accidents while they caused 47 mishaps in the same period.

The death casualties also included three Indians, three Egyptians and one Pakistani. Males emerged as the main victim, with the death of nine and injury of 338.

Zafin said the accidents were mainly a result of reckless driving, speed, jumping the red signal, tyre blast, and drunk driving.
