It was a tragic weekend on UAE roads, with seven people losing their lives and eight more ending up with major injuries in road accidents.
A total of seven people have been reported to have died over the past two days in separate accidents in Ras al Khaimah, Sharjah and Dubai, while more were injured.
Ras al Khaimah saw the highest number of deaths caused by two separate accidents, both taking place in the evening.
In one accident, which occurred on Al Jazeera Al Hamra Road, a vehicle went off road and hit a light pole after the lady driver lost control over the car.
The driver, an Arab woman aged 42, was in the car with her daughter (14), and three sisters from Oman, who were friends with the daughter.
The mother and daughter died on the spot while the youngest of the three sisters died later in the hospital. One of the sisters is fighting for her life, while the third sister is suffering from moderate injuries.
The second fatal accident in RAK took place on the previously designated racing track in Awafi area.
An Emirati youngster aged 19 died in hospital after his car flipped over and landed upside down. He was showcasing stunts on a sealed-off racing track, confirms Major Marwan Abdullah Jaqa, Director of the Media Department of Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Although the racing track was shut down for safety purposes two years ago, the deceased driver had apparently managed to enter the track.
In Sharjah, a fatal accident occurred over the weekend when a truck driver of unknown nationality drove into University Bridge on Sharjah-Maleiha road and died as a result of the impact.
In Dubai, two deaths were reported on Friday morning, when a vehicle went off road and hit a light pole. Two Indians in the front seats aged 40 and 39 died on the spot, while three other passengers of Indian nationality were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Six other residents of Indian nationality were injured in four separate traffic accidents later on the day.
