A fire broke out in Cavalier Restaurant in Jumeirah in Dubai on Sunday afternoon. No casualties were reported.

A spokesperson of Civil Defence said: "The operating room received a call at 3:59pm reporting a fire in the restaurant area of Jumeirah behind Mercado. On arrival, the firefighting team saw fire in the room with refrigerators."

According to Civil Defence, a number of people had to be evacuated though there were no injuries.

It is not clear whether the evacuation included staff or guests of the restaurant. However, the restaurant seems to have been closed at the time of the fire because of Ramadan timings.

The fire was put out in about 20 minutes.

The extent of the damage to the restaurant is not clear. It is not known whether the restaurant will be able to open its doors to guests this Ramadan.

The restaurant could not be reached for comments.
