Fuel shortage in Sharjah: Pumps open but taps dry

Petrol pumps in Sharjah reported fuel shortage on Tuesday. This was the second time since a 24-hour dry spell was recorded on May 13.

According to an Adnoc staff, most petrol stations in Sharjah started functioning late on Tuesday evening.

But some motorists informed Emirates24|7 on Tuesday that they had difficulty in finding fuel.

One of them said that the two Adnoc stations he had gone to informed him that they had run out of fuel.

One station was near the Sharjah airport and the other near Al Qusais.

“There was no board put up at the station near Sharjah airport, but the other one had a sign put up,” informed Ajay Abraham.

He finally gave up the search and drove to Dubai to fill up.

When Emirates24|7 contacted the Adnoc toll free number, an agent informed that there was a shortage and the issue was due to a tanker problem.

“I cannot confirm when the situation will be rectified. It is a technical problem,” the agent added.

Another Adnoc agent confirmed that the Al Martar station, behind the Sharjah airport, was open and supplying fuel.

“That’s the only station that is working. The rest should start in an hour or two, depending on when the tankers reach them,” she added.

Just last month, a similar situation was recorded with Adnoc pumps. The incident occurred on May 13, and within 24-hours it was solved.

Adnoc could not be reached for an official comment today.
