“I just couldn’t believe I had won,” beamed an ecstatic Rudolfo Cruz, who walked away with a whooping Dh45,000 in travel vouchers at the Gitex Shopper.

With the vouchers, that’s powered by Alpha Tours, he can now travel anywhere in the world and even pack in his family and friends.

“This is absolutely fantastic. I’m speechless. I’m overwhelmed.

“I’ve never won anything this big. It’s going to take time to sink in.”

Rudolfo and his friends had headed to Gitex on Tuesday to buy some gadgets. “I bought a laptop, and my friend bought an iPhone 6. And, we decided to club it for the raffle. My friend asked me to put my name on it, because he felt I’m lucky.”

And, it did work.

The Philippine national and his friends, who started shopping at 3pm, stayed at world trade centre till 7pm for the big draw.

“Once your name is put in, the first draw picks 5 names. Then, the five can pick their position on the horse racing video game draw with another draw. I got number 6, and once the game started, I just watched patiently. And, as luck would have it, I won.”

Rudolfo, who has been working in Dubai since 2001, lives with his two sisters. “My sisters are equally excited. Our mother lives in Philippines, and because of the time difference, I will have to wait till Wednesday morning to make that call and give her the good news.

Asked to talk more about his holiday plans, he said, “I plan to take my sisters with me. And, I wish to go to UK, USA and Japan. I need to start planning now, as I need to travel before September 2016.”

The 40-year-old professional, who works in Business Bay, concluded by saying he needs to check his blood pressure. “With all this excitement, I’m feeling slightly light-headed.”

To win the Dh45,000 travel deal, shoppers must spend Dh5,000 at Gitex Shopper. Five names are picked through a draw, and then they get to draw again for their positions/numbers on the horse racing video game.
