Weekend weather: Cloudy, hazy skies for UAE

Could the towering clouds over the UAE skies this weekend spell a chance of rainfall?

The country’s Met office has not completely ruled out the possibility, which would bring a temporary relief for residents, with the climbing Mercury hovering near the mid-forties.

After a spell of fog and misty weather that affected visibility in Liwa and other parts of Abu Dhabi on Thursday, Friday’s weather is forecasted to be partly cloudy in general, with ‘clouds that could be embedded with rain’.

The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has stated some clouds are expected to develop over the eastern areas in the morning hours, which may become towering by afternoon, further increasing cloud amount gradually by late night from the west.

A spokesperson further said: “The clouds could be embedded with rain droplets, with a chance of wet weather that would be limited to the eastern and southeastern parts of the UAE, mainly Al Ain and neigbhouring areas.”

Moderate winds, freshening at times, will stir up the breeze; but it would also cause dust to rise and hinder visibility, especially during morning.

Friday would also see a rise in temperatures, which already hit highs of 44 degrees Celsius earlier this week.

Meanwhile, those who are planning to charter a boat for a balmy day in the sun, take note that the sea will be moderate in general, but rough at times due to the cloud activity over the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

The partly cloudy weather will take us into Saturday as well, with some clouds expected to develop over the eastern areas.

An inland southerly flow may raise dust at times during the day.
