Tatawwu, the voluntary group of the Dubai Municipality, will collect unused medicines from its employees and donate it to humanitarian organisations.

Tatawwu team hopes to spread the culture of volunteerism among its employees through this initiative.

Mona Mohammed Malik, who heads Tatawwu, said, “A lot of people can benefit from the unused medicines we throw in the trash.”

Specially prepared bags to collect the medicines have been circulated to all organisational units in the civic body.

She added that medicines that had expired or didn’t show the encrypted expiry date on it would be discarded.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, special counters will be set-up at the main office in Deira to collect the contributions from all the departments.

Khalid Mohammed Badri, director of customer relations department of Dubai Municipality, said the team has a database of employees who wished to volunteer.

Last year, members of Tatawwu spent over 500 hours in volunteer work. The 160-member team actively participated in programmes like Car-Free Day initiative, Your Weight In Gold, National Day activities and Family Day events.
