Twenty eight years old Nishad Abbas was riding a bicycle through the industrial area in Sharjah when he was hit by a black car, followed by a trailer that left him with grave injuries in his stomach and kidney.

Both the black car and the heavy trailer that hit the cyclist vanished from the scene without reporting the incident to the police, leaving the almost paralysed man penniless and helpless in a hospital bed for 34 days now.

Nishad, an employee of a used spare parts dealer in Sharjah Industrial area, has been undergoing life-saving treatment at the Al Qassimiya Hospital.

When he fell from the cycle after being hit by the car, the trailer hit him and he sustained injuries in the left part of his stomach, damaging his bladder and other internal organs.

Like many other cyclists who use the two-wheeler to commute from workplace to their accommodation, Nishad was reportedly riding on the wrong side of the street, when he was hit from behind near Masa signal, Sharjah.

“After he fell down on the main road and the bicycle fell on the pavement, a trailer which was coming from the signal stop almost hit him. If the driver had not applied the brakes, he could have been run over. He was trapped under the wheels of the trailer but was conscious, barely. A part of his body was stuck under the wheel and some of his body parts had spilled out on the street,” his brother Noushad, who is staying with him in the hospital, told Emirates 24|7.

He called his friends to inform them about the accident and was later hospitalised.

He is completely dependent on the medical equipments and requires further treatment. While he has got his health card, but it will not cover the total cost of treatment.

Nishad cannot foot the bill or go home for further treatment. He will not get any compensation from the insurance company as he was riding down the wrong side of the road.

He has been working in Sharjah for four years and he started using bicycle only six months ago. He was earning a monthly salary of Dh1,600 and his employer cannot afford to finance his treatment.
