A UAE female minister has urged Emiratis to give more attention to the development of their job skills instead of how much they are paid, saying she started her career life with a monthly salary of Dh1,000.

Minister of State Maitha Al Shamsi, a well known UAE businesswoman, made the call at a workshop held in Abu Dhabi to encourage nationals to take jobs and upgrade their skills for their future career.

“A manager or a senior job will not land on you without having real skills and experience that will add a real asset to the establishment you work for,” she said.

“Unfortunately, there are nationals who do not realize their personal skills…they need to be trained and to work hard to discover their skills and talents,…they should not concentrate only on the salary and financial incentives…I began my career life with a monthly salary of Dh1,000…I did not refuse it because my main concern at that time was to work and develop my skills, talents and experience.”

Shamsi did not say where she worked for Dh1,000 or specify that job.
