An Asian woman who has been on the run for nearly three years after she was accused of stealing Dh2,000 surrendered to Fujairah police so they will let her travel back home and see her ill son, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The woman, identified as SA, fled work at a female hair salon in Dibba three years ago after her employer accused her of stealing Dh2,000 from a customer.

Police had mounted a manhunt for the woman but could not find her. They then sent alerts to all airports and other outlets in the UAE to arrest the woman.

“She turned up at the police station and surrendered to the surprised police men…she told them she had done so because she wants to go back home to see her ill son,” Alkhaleej said.
