iPhone 6 in UAE: 'Wake me up when September ends' for fans

If you are a die-hard fan of Apple and want to get hold of a unit on September 27, be prepared to fight it out. According to sources within the country, there may not be sufficient stocks to cater to the massive demand.

“The supply chain is stretched. We will have to wait for the second and third round to cater to the existing demand and that might run into several months,” one of the sources said.

According to him that's the reason why even authorized retailers are hesitating to accept preorders.

Sources from several leading electronic stores confirmed the same and said that they are hesitant to start taking advance bookings unless they are sure of the stock.

Currently only Etisalat has promised to take pre-orders from September 19. “Thank you for registering your interest in iPhone 6 device from Etisalat. The pre-order will start from September 19, 2014 at 12.01am,” a message reads. Currently, however, subscribers can register their interest by entering their email address, mobile, and other specifications of the device they are interested in.

On the UAE Apple store, the iPhone 6 starts from Dh2,599 while the iPhone 6 Plus from Dh2,999.

Meanwhile, 'unofficial' dealers and websites are promising that the device would be available starting September 20, a day after its launch in the US, Singapore and other markets.

Even online retailers have, however, stopped short of taking pre-orders. Online retailer Jadopado.com has listed all different models of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to be available from September 20 but there are no indication of prices.

In the United States, however, preorders started on Friday and the rush was so massive that the online Apple store went down. It was restored soon but shipments time had already stretched from three to four weeks. This despite Apple having booked every available cargo from China to ship out its newly launched devices.
