Working as a law enforcement officer is no easy job. It entails hard work with several inherent risks involved.

Officers in the UAE ensure the safety of citizens and residents.

The Federal Decree No. (40) of 2008 in the country elaborates on the salaries, bonuses and allowances of police and security force staff members. The monies paid out to the National Force Members are as follows:

However, 20 per cent of the complementary bonus shall be deducted monthly in case lodging is allocated to the force employees.

A similar percentage is deducted from the complementary allowance if lodging was allocated before the decree became effective (2008). The Minister may, however, exempt the force member at his own discretion.

Also, the Minister shall issue a lodging allocation list for force members and rent allowances on the basis of rank.

Besides this, there is also a telephone allowance and the permitted used of telephone by the force members.

There are periodic bonuses as well. Force members in the rank of brigadier and above are entitled to an annual bonus equal to 6 per cent of their base salary as of January 1st of each year.

Here are the entitlements to an annual bonus on January 1st, of each year, based on the previous year’s competency report.

There is no annual bonus if force members receive a mark lower than good on their competency report for that year.

Special bonuses are also added to the overall package. Article (5) elaborates that special bonuses shall be disbursed monthly to the force members of Dh20,000 maximum and Dh500 minimum.

There is also a position-related bonus for officers, which is dependent on many variables.

The next on the list is a social bonus, under which Dh600 is paid on a monthly basis to male officers for each eligible National child. Article (7) details when this amount is payable.

Force members also receive an official mission allowance for each full day or part day they serve inside or outside the State in order to carry out the duty entrusted to them. A monthly expatriation allowance is also payable to those assigned to security missions abroad.

Other allowances such as study abroad course or scholarship bonus, hardship allowance, clothing and sustenance allowance are included to make sure that our police officers are taken care of and fully compensated.
