Khalifa International Date Palm Award opens entries for its 6th edition 2014

Over Dh2 million Khalifa International Date Palm Award today opened the entries for the five categories of its sixth edition for farmers, producers, researchers and academics, specialists and lovers of palm date tree around the world till 30th of October.

The award is distributed to five categories at a rate of Dh300, 000 for the first place winner and Dh200, 000 for the second winner of each category.

The General Secretariat of the award said at a press conference held here today at Emirates Palace Hotel that upon the directives by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award, the door was opened for candidates to submit their applications to compete and win in one of the five award categories.

Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Secretary General of the Award, said that the curve chart for the award was growing steadily forward at various levels, citing the increasing number of candidates, especially Emirati candidates in the various award categories, whose number reached 55 during the past five years.

He stressed that the Secretariat of the award decided to move forward in its national campaign and open up to the local community to expand the scope of participation of the largest number of farmers from all targeted segments, whether they are farmers or producers, manufacturers, researchers and academics so as to encourage them to compete for the various award categories.

Zayed referred to the keenness of Sheikh Nahyan on enhancing the regional and international presence of the award and building on the successes that have been achieved over the recent few years.

He noted that the care for success was the translation of the directives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the patron of the award and the support of General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and follow up by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to promote the award status at the world level.
