Dubai’s Al Habtoor City has announced launch details of the region’s first permanent water-based show.

Previews of the La Perle will begin December 2016, and tickets will be priced beginning Dh399 and going up to Dh699 besides VIP packages, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

The Al Habtoor City sits on the banks of the upcoming Dubai Water Canal, and the tailor-made aqua-theatre where the show will be hosted is located in the heart of Al Habtoor City, situated between the St Regis Hotel and the W Hotel.

The show is produced and created by Franco Dragone, an Italian-Belgian theatre director who played a significant role in developing Cirque du Soleil’s distinctive merging of theatre and circus performance.

The production will be created in Dubai and will embody the spirit of Arabia, and there will be 450 performances per year, says Al Habtoor Group which is bringing it to Dubai.

AHG said visitors stay on average nearly four days in Dubai, during which they enjoy an array of daytime activities from souks to shopping malls, desert adventures to theme parks and incredible beaches.

Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice-Chairman and CEO, Al Habtoor Group said: “Together with Dragone, the Al Habtoor Group is leading the way to herald a new era of theatrical entertainment for Dubai and securing the city as not just a tourist destination, but an epicentre for unique world-class theatre similar to Las Vegas and Macau.”

What is La Perle?

La Perle will be an unmissable visitor experience and an iconic show for Dubai, offering an unmatched immersive production that can only be delivered in a purpose-built theatre. London, New York, Las Vegas and Macau all have iconic shows that attract millions of visitors a year. In 2015, 65 per cent of the 41 million visitors to Las Vegas bought tickets to see resident shows.

The name La Perle reflects the high-calibre and elegance of each performer in the show, who have distinguished themselves from other artists around the world and become treasures in the creation of this masterpiece.

In addition, the logo’s pearl-shaped fluidity and futuristic connotations are an acknowledgement to the legacy of the UAE and Dubai’s positioning as a city of the future.

The tailor-made water theatre

The theatre will feature an ‘aqua-stage’ filled with 2.5 million litres of water, powered by hydraulic lifts and fountains that enables the stage to change from a dry platform to aquatic stage and vice-versa.

Daredevil performers will dive into the water-filled stage from a height of 35 metres and fly around the auditorium on high-powered winches at a speed of four metres per second.

La Perle will feature a cast of 65 world-class artists performing breath-taking aqua and aerial feats with the assistance of 70 specialised technicians in the tailor-made, state of the art, intimate 1,300 seat theatre.

The director

Famed for reinventing the genre of theatre and changing the face of live entertainment in Las Vegas, Franco Dragone’s most significant shows in the last decade include: Celine Dion – A New Day, Le Rêve (Las Vegas) and The House of Dancing Water (Macau).

“La Perle will be the most awe-inspiring and technically advanced theatre production I have ever produced and directed. New and unique for the region with the world’s best creative team and incredible performers, La Perle is inspired by the spirit of Dubai and will reflect the beauty and flavours of Arabia. It will be the soul of Al Habtoor City,” said Franco Dragone, Artistic Director and Founder of Dragone.
