Majid launches campaign to keep deserts safe

Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has launched a new initiative to reduce the recreational motorbikes [quad bikes] accidents, especially in the rainy season and holidays.

The Initiative, launched under the slogan 'Sahara bedoon Dema’a' (desert without blood) includes a major awareness campaign, according to Emarat Al Youm.

Five local departments are taking part in the campiagn  and will warn the community of the risks that result from the recreational motorcycle accidents which result in 15 deaths a year and serious injuries, sometimes leading to permanant disabilities.

The Initiative includes the formation of a committee to implement the targets of the campaign.

Marwan bin Bayat, the Director of the Office of Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Major General  Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director General of the Department of Traffic, will participate in the campiagn in addtion to Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic Department at RTA and Dr Rashid Saif Al Jabri, Director of the Research Department in the Department of Islamic Affairs and charitable work; as well as Ali Al Shadoor, Managing Editor of Al Bayan; Saad Mohammed Al Marzouki, Director of Events and transfer of patients in Dubai Foundation for ambulance services; and Muzna Rashid Al Serkal, TV Producer at DMI.

The Campaign aims to reach a rate of 0% of deaths caused due to  accidents in the desert each year and reducing injuries by 70 per cent. It aims to prosecute violators of safety standards and increase awareness among parents related to risk of such accidents.

Marwan bin Bayat said the initiative 'desert without blood' comes out of attention of Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the welfare of society, and his keenness on the safety of its members, especially of children and young people.

Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed launched and sponsored a number of initiatives in several areas, which aimed at serving a various groups in the society.
