Males double the number of females in Fujairah

Fujairah’s population grew by about five per cent to nearly 182,000 at the end of 2012 and a gender breakdown showed males were double the number of females.

Government data showed the Emirati and expatriate population in the eastern emirate totalled 182,023 at the end of last year compared with 171,646 at the end of 2011.

At the end of 2012, males were estimated at 120,136 and females at 61,887, showed the annual statistics book issued by the ruler’s office.

An age breakdown showed the number of children below four years old stood at 13,145 while there were 11,553 people aged between five and nine years, 10,561 aged between 10 and 14 years, 10,687 aged 15-19 years, 21,085 aged 20-24 years.

The report showed those aged between 25 and 29 years were largest age group, standing at 30,154 at the end of 2012.
