Man dies trying to save dead cow in Al Ain well

An Asian farm worker died while trying to recover a dead cow which fell into a 34-metre-deep water well in the farm in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain. Both his body and the carcass remained in the well nearly a week after the incident.

Suleiman Khail had decided to go into the well just after the cow fell down and he managed in recovering parts of the carcass by his knife.

On the next day, Khail decided to go down again to cut off more parts of the dead cow but he never showed up again.

The Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said Khail was tied to a rope dangled by two colleagues but apparently slipped off after inhaling toxic substances.

“Rescuers are still trying to recover his body a week after he slipped out of the rope and died…civil defence men said they are exerting strenuous efforts to pluck the body out but that it is taking time because of the difficult topographic conditions.”
