The grace period to settle unpaid traffic fines to Mawaqif or the traffic department has been extended until November 30, according to the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport (DoT).

Meanwhile, a motorist has paid Dh60,000 in traffic fines in instalments — the biggest such amount — to Abu Dhabi’s Mawaqif department.

The option to pay traffic fine in instalments is applicable for those who were issued two fines with a combined value of at least Dh1,000, explained Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director, Traffic and Patrols Directorate.

Also, this payment option is only applicable for traffic fines issued to vehicles registered by individuals and not companies.

He added that 2,988 drivers availed of the installment scheme during the grace period.

Mohammed Hamad bin Fahed Al Muhairi, Director-General, Mawaqif, said: “Vehicle owners can approach Mawaqif any time to submit their queries and grievances. A designated committee will look into all grievances, and take immediate decision to avoid delay in vehicle registration renewal.”
