The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has issued guidelines regarding car decorations for the UAE 44th National Day celebrations.

It called upon the public to abide by traffic laws and decoration guidelines, and to behave in a positive manner that embodies the deep meaning of this auspicious occasion.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohamed Al Khaili, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police pointed out that the directorate will be implementing a comprehensive traffic plan under the theme ‘Let's Celebrate the Spirit of the Union without Violations’.

“Under the plan, monitoring will be intensified on all roads and celebration venues in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, through surveillance cameras and radars located on all roads and in underground tunnels so as to capture any traffic violations during the national day celebrations,” he explained.

He added that strict control will be ensured through traffic patrols in order to render all lawbreakers legally accountable.

Brigadier Al Khaili said that as a part of these guidelines, motorists are prohibited from changing the colour of their vehicles and posting inappropriate and/or obscene words and phrases on the car's body.

The Directorate also prohibited vehicles from carrying more than the permitted number of people and warned passengers against sticking any part of their body out of the vehicle.

Furthermore, the directorate warned motorists against installing a flag, obscuring the windshield and front-door windows with tint or sprays and stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road.

The directorate also warned motorists against disrupting the flow of traffic, parking on main and internal roads, parking on bus stops and taxi stations, installing parts that increase noises of vehicles or performing any alterations to the engines. It also called upon the public not to use sprays to tint the windshield or the driver’s window or change the color of the vehicle.

Decoration will commence from Nov.22

On the same note, the Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate noted that the permitted period for car decorating will commence on the 22nd of November and conclude on the 6th of December.

Brigadier Al Khaili encouraged families and the various community segments to support the efforts exerted to enhance traffic culture so as to reduce the negative behaviors that contradict the spirit of the Union. Such behaviors include attempts to show-off and stunts with vehicles, reckless driving, overtaking on the hard shoulder of the road, jumping red light signals and other violations. “Observing these guidelines will allow all segments of society to express their happiness and enjoy the festivities on this auspicious national occasion in a safe and civilized way,” he emphasized.
