New speed limit rules in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police will enforce new speed limit regulations starting next week.

Police patrol cars will monitor the speed limits in residential areas whereas the radars will monitor traffic on highways, revealed Colonel Hussain Ahmad Al Harithi, director of Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Department.

The speed limit on highways will be 140 kilometres per hour with an allowance of 20 kms per hour, which means that a motorist would be be fined if he crosses 160 km per hour on highways, said Al Harithi.

The speed limit in residential areas will be 20-40km per hour.

These changes have been brought about after a lot of research and will be enforced to ensure road safety.

They should crack down HARDER on slow drivers than fast ones! They make the roads dangerous for everybody, not us fast ones! C'mon fast drivers have their rights too and the slow pokes are infringing on it by occupying lanes designed for us!

Better to make less speed for safety.

knowing that i drive a v8 5.7 L Dodge Charger, however, i respect a speeding Toyota Yaris as much as a Lamborghini. no need to be stubborn and hold the lane, this will cause the speeder to overtake from the shoulder or the right side, which poses more danger. SIMPLY PUT: DRIVE WITH HUMBLE NOT WITH PRIDE.

160 or even 200 are safe if everyone drives properly (no racing, no sudden lane change, giving way to speeding cars, etc.)personaly i always drive on 140 max even if it's allowed for more, however, i don't wait for someone to flash me or tail gate me, whenever i see someone speeding behind me, i respectfully shift from my lane to the next one.

what's even worse is slow pokes who drive on lower than 100 kph on the bypass/left lane and do not clear it even when they are flashed.

Ensuring road safety with 160 km per hour? That is a very strange approach.

I thought the police were trying to promote safe driving? With drivers tail-gating and flashing their lights exceeding even 160km how can it be safe! On a daily basis we see madness on the highway. Have more hwy patrols pulling reckless drivers over, impound their cars and hand out hefty fines.
