The Policies and Strategies Council at the Ministry of Interior discussed on Tuesday, the possibility of reducing the minimum legal age to obtain a driving license, within legal frameworks and specific procedures to ensure public safety.

This would allow a large segment of parents to rely on their children who are under the age of 18, to carry out everyday life chores and tasks within a private family framework.

The meeting, chaired by Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, also discussed all solutions, proposals and requirements relevant to the draft Law.

These proposals stipulate the presence of a supervising adult and next of kin, and installation of speed limiters to track the vehicle's speed and safe driving.

Sheikh Saif underscored the importance of achieving the goals and objectives of the draft law, which aims to serve parents, in order to facilitate their movement and fulfill their various needs, while safeguarding traffic safety for both motorists and road users in general.
