No diseased meat in Abu Dhabi: FCA

Abu Dhabi’s health authorities have denied that diseased meat is being circulated in the emirate, reassuring the public all imported foodstuffs are checked before their entry.

The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (FCA) was reacting to rumors on smartphones and social networks that Syrian meat imported by Abu Dhabi is diseased.

“There is no diseased meat whether Syrian or from another country.

“Syrian meat is not allowed into the emirate in the first place because dealers do not find it feasible for trading,” FCA said in a statement on Sunday.

FCA public affairs director Mohammed Al Raisi said all meat and other foodstuffs imported by Abu Dhabi are examined before they are allowed in.

He said all ‘live’ animals, including sheep and goats, are also taken to authorised abattoirs for vet examination before and after slaughtering.

“The reports that the meat is diseased and cancerous are totally untrue. Furthermore, meat also does not infect others with cancer because this disease is not contagious nor is it a common disease between humans and animals,” he said.
