NRI alert: It's raining jobs in Indian metros and tier 2 cities

Hiring activity in India is picking up pace rapidly, with the job market seeing fresh vacancies and a surging demand for professionals.

The month of September saw recruitment grow by 4 per cent in the Indian job market with sectors like infrastructure and IT/telecom showing a growing appetite for hiring professionals.

According to the latest report from RecruiteX, TimesJobs.com’s recruitment index, demand for talent was especially buoyant in Tier II cities last month.

Indian cities where professionals are most in demand

Among the smart cities, Indore topped the chart with a substantial surge of 19 per cent in hiring activity during the month. The city has reported an average 5 per cent rise in talent demand since July 2015.

In addition, Pune, a suburb of India’s commercial capital, Mumbai also reported a massive 14 per cent increase in demand for professional talent.

Among states, Andhra Pradesh (except Hyderabad) witnessed the maximum increase (18 per cent) in demand, while among state capitals, Ahmedabad registered a whopping 17 per cent increase in talent demand in September 2015.

Among metros, Delhi NCR posted the highest (8 per cent) rise in demand for talent.

 
Which sectors are hiring the most?

Sector-wise, it was infrastructure that emerged as the top employment generator last month, with a 10 per cent rise in hiring.

Petrochemicals, and oil & gas sectors were not far behind, and reported a 9 per cent increase in talent demand.

A regular among the top ten, the IT & telecom sectors also witnessed an average 6 per cent rise in demand during the month. Incidentally, the IT sector has consistently registered an average growth of 5 per cent (more than the overall industry average of 3 per cent) in the last three months (July-September 2015).

Other big employers that witnessed considerable gains were the travel & hospitality industry that registered a 5 rise in demand and the BFSI sector that saw a 4 per cent uptick as per the September index.

 
Most sought-after professionals in India

The demand for HR professionals has risen by a considerable 13 per cent. These profiles have witnessed an average rise of 4 per cent across the last three months.

Business managers and professional consultants also reported a significant 12 per cent jump. These professionals also reported a 4 per cent average rise in demand between July-September 2015.

Customer service & tele-calling professionals also witnessed a 10 per cent rise in demand.

IT/telecom and hospitality professionals reported a 6 and 5 per cent increase in demand, respectively.

The demand for middle-level professionals reported the maximum rise in September 2015.

Working professionals with 5-10 years of experience saw an average 8 per cent rise in demand during the month. The category further registered an average 5 per cent rise during the last three months.

While candidates with 10-20 years of experience witnessed a 4 per cent rise in demand, but demand for candidates with over 20 years of experience have seen a 9 per cent drop.

The index also saw the demand for candidates with less than 2 years of experience increase by 4 per cent.
