The General Director for Residence and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) will no longer accept photocopies for visas and other applications as it has made original documents mandatory when dealing with the residency and foreign affairs department.

In a major development to improve its services, the new procedures have been effective since last week at the GDRFA’s Dubai centres and its headquarters.

However, the new rules will be strictly enforced at typing centres from next month.

“GRFAD urges its customers to bring original documents when submitting applications. Photocopies will no longer be accepted,” it said in an advertisement.

“This procedure is effective from October 14 and will be made compulsory at all service centres including headquarters, GDRFAD service centres and typing centres by November 15, 2015,” it noted.

It also asked residents to bring Emirates Identity card of the applicant and sponsor’s bank account details when submitting an application.

“It’s important to note that the Emirates ID of the sponsor and applicant, and the International Bank Account Number (IBAN), should be presented when applying.

“GDRFAD regrets receiving applications submitted without original documents from said date,” it noted.
