Parking in Sharjah: Mobile payment soon

The option of using your mobile phone as a payment method for a parking space will soon be introduced to Sharjah, as emirate is gearing up for an upgraded payment system.

Although the exact date of the implementation of the system has not been announced, Sharjah Municipality confirmed it is currently working on the system to be implemented soon.

It will be exactly the same as the system applied in Dubai, explained an official at Sharjah Municipality.

"You will have to send in the 4-digit code of the parking space, followed by the license plate number and the number of hours you would like to use the parking space for.

"Fifteen minutes before the booked time expires, you will receive an SMS asking whether you want to renew your parking or not, so you will not forget to do this."

The system, which is still under development, will be available online and as an iPhone app, and users will be able to sign up online, though SMS, or through the app.

Currently paid parking zones provide three payment options, being payment with coins, with a pre-paid card or through periodic membership, which can last for 3, 6, or 12 months.
