Sharjah faced petrol shortage for the fourth consecutive day as most Enoc and Eppco fuel stations remained closed.
The closure of many stations have led to snaking queues at other stations which are too few and far between, causing chaos on the streets and panic among motorists, Khaleej Times reported.
Khaleej Times quoted several concerned motorists expressing their anguish over the predicament.
Abdul Rahman, a motorist in Sharjah, said: “I usually visit the Adnoc stations and I haven’t faced any issues with them yet but the Eppco petrol pump near my home is still closed.”
“Motorists tend to look for a petrol station when they see the low-petrol indicator in their car. It is surprising to see some of the petrol pumps are closed for days without any notice,” said another motorist.
Though, the petrol suppliers have not issued an official statement yet, a manager of one of the stations attributed shortage to logistic problems.
“We don’t know when the issue will be sorted out,” the manager said on condition of anonymity.
Rumours abound that increased losses leading from petrol subsidies and logistic issues has caused a strain on petrol suppliers.
However, two other leading suppliers Adnoc and Emarat petrol stations continue to work unhindered, but they are unable to take the load.
