The Al Ain Traffic Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police directed pedestrians, mostly laborers, in the industrial area of Al Ain regarding the correct methods for crossing the road, said a press statement.

Under the pedestrian awareness campaign recently launched by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, pedestrians are encouraged to cross the roads via the designated crosswalks in order to prevent being hit or run-over by a vehicle. The campaign is being conducted throughout the various streets and areas of Al Ain.

Lt. Colonel Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section, called upon all drivers to reduce their speeds near the pedestrian crosswalks and to grant the pedestrians priority when crossing.

He then called upon the pedestrians, urging them to always utilise the crosswalks when crossing the street.

“The campaign embodies the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters to make the roads safer and it also implements the headquarters’ methodology of externally communicating with the public,” Lt. Colonel Al Hemairi said.

“Such campaigns consistently achieve positive results and contribute to decreasing the number of pedestrian-related accidents. The campaigns are carried out by groups affiliated with the Section and its branches which include the Public Relations, Traffic Control, and Protocol branches.”

“Pedestrians in the industrial area of Al Ain were given awareness brochures outlining the violations that will be given to the pedestrians who fail to adhere to the proper crossing procedures,” Lt. Colonel Al Hemairi said. He additionally described how the members of the Al Ain Traffic Section explained the locations of the safe roads and designated crosswalks to a group of pedestrians in a bid to further minimize the occurrence of run-over accidents.
