Dubai Police arrested a narcotics trader with Dh2 million worth of hashish.

The Arab possessed 212kg of hash - equivalent in weight to half of all drugs seized in the last 18 months, reports 7 Days.

Brigadier Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Head of Anti-Narcotics Department, said: “This was a major blow for a major player. We are sending out a strong message to everyone trying to trade or smuggle drugs into our country - we strike with an iron fist to prevent such behaviour.”

He said the drugs had been smuggled into the UAE by boat and had a street value of Dh2.1m.

Undercover cops posed as potential buyers and met the Arab in Dubai. He told them that he had 100kg of hashish and asked the cops to pay Dh7,000 per kilo.

They seized five bags of drugs and found another 112kg of drugs from his hideout in Ras Al Khaimah.

“He claimed that he got the drugs from an Asian man who smuggled it by boat to Ras Al Khaimah at the beginning of Ramadan,” said Mahdi.
